School Board adopts 2016 tax levy
On Tuesday, Dec. 15, the North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale School Board adopted the 2015 Payable 2016 Property Tax Levy.
Before voting on the issue, Business Services Director Randy Anderson provided an overview of the Levy and Budget.
The 2015 Payable 2016 proposed total levy is a decrease -0.27% when compared to the Payable 2015 levy. This total amount reflects an increase in the Long Term Facilities Maintenance Plan and the ‘pay as you go’ OPEB levy to help defer the future cost of post-employment health insurance. Both of these items had to be reviewed and approved by the MDE before we could levy for them.
Pursuant to state law, school districts are required to discuss the levy and budget at a regular school board meeting and allow the public to speak. This was previously called the Truth and Taxation Hearing. Any resident who wished to speak to the proposed property tax levy was allowed to do so during the public comment portion of the meeting on Dec. 15, 2015.
